Guwahati to Host India’s 1st State-Run Proton Therapy Centre!

In a major boost to Northeast India's healthcare infrastructure, the Government of Assam is setting up the country’s first state-government-run Proton Beam Therapy Centre in Guwahati. The Assam Government has formally partnered with IBA Particle Therapy India to build this high-precision cancer care facility.

The agreement was signed at Lok Sewa Bhawan in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Supported jointly by the World Bank and the Government of Assam, the project involves an estimated investment of around ₹600 crore. Proton Beam Therapy offers cutting-edge radiation treatment using high-energy protons to destroy cancer cells with maximum accuracy and minimal damage to healthy surrounding tissue. Once operational, the facility will significantly enhance specialized oncology services and expand affordable access to advanced cancer treatment across the region.
